Jonah Jackson, offensive lineman from Media and a Penncrest graduate, could become the latest Delaware County athlete to make the NFL draft, writes Bob Grotz for the Daily Times.

If picked next week, he would join others like Tom Savage, a Cardinal O’Hara quarterback who was selected in the fourth round of the 2014 lottery by the Houston Texans, the most recent Delaware County athlete to make the NFL cut.

He hasn’t played since the 2017 season because of injuries.

Since the 1972 NFL-AFL merger, six Delaware County players have been taken in the first round of the draft.

They include Marple Newtown’s Bill Maas in 1984 and defensive end Burt Grossman out of Archbishop Carroll in 1989.

Other first round Delaware County selections were Heisman Trophy winner John Cappelletti of Monsignor Bonner in 1974,  and Chichester star John Mobley in 1996.

The most Anthony Becht of Bonner in 2000 and Kevin Jones, who grew up in Chester and starred at Cardinal O’Hara and Virginia Tech.  He was the 30th pick in the 2004 draft.

In all, 27 Delaware County football players have been drafted.
