Coronavirus Update: Virus Now in 48 of 49 Delaware County Municipalities, 5 More Deaths Reported

Lower Chichester became the latest municipality in Delaware County where cases of COVID-19 were reported, meaning positive confirmed cases have now been reported in 48 of 49 municipalities.

Five more Delaware County residents have lost their lives to COVID-19 as of Tuesday, April 21, bringing the county’s death toll to 105, according to data from the Chester County Health Department.

Of those 105 deaths, 71 occurred in a nursing home or personal care facility in the county, according to the Chester County Health Department.

The county’s total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases has increased by 153 and is now at 2,698.

The virus is now reported in 48 of the 49 municipalities, with no cases reported in Rutledge.

There are 980 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has been listed.

Yeadon Borough has the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. It has 122 cases, affecting 1.06 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most reported cases, at 272, affecting .33 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

According to statistics, 54.78 percent of the cases affected county females while 43.51 percent affected males, with 1.7 percent unknown.

The county had 6,540 people test negative for the virus.

Pennsylvania data

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of midnight, April 21, that there are 1,296 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 34,528.

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania have cases of COVID-19.

The state reported 360 new deaths among positive and probable cases, bringing the statewide total to 1,564.

Of those, 796 were in nursing homes and personal care facilities.
