Coronavirus Update: Reports List 123 Delaware County Residents Dead From COVID-19, Cases at 2,798

     The Chester County Health Department is reporting an unusual jump in the number of Delaware County COVID-19 deaths from the Pennsylvania Department of Health as of Wednesday, April 22.

     That jump is attributed to a review and reconciliation between numbers previously reported by hospitals and coroners and numbers provided to health departments.

     This review and reconciliation process will be used from this point on to make more consistent and accurate reports.

Nineteen more Delaware County COVID-19 deaths were reported as of Wednesday, April 22, bringing the county’s death toll to 123, according to data from the Chester County Health Department.

Of those 123 deaths, 74 occurred in a nursing home or personal care facility in the county, according to the Chester County Health Department.

The following is a breakdown of COVID-19 fatalities by descending order of community:

  • Under investigation, community pending 12
  • Upper Darby 10
  • Haverford 9
  • Nether Providence 8
  • Darby Borough 7
  • Newtown 5
  • Springfield 3

  • Ridley 2
  • Collingdale 2
  • Ridley Park 1
  • Clifton Heights 1
  • Bethel 1
  • Aston 1
  • Concord 1

The county’s total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases has increased by 100 and is now at 2,798.

The virus is reported in 48 of the 49 municipalities, with no cases reported in Rutledge.

There are 972 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has been listed.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. It has 138 cases, affecting 1.2 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most reported cases, at 288, affecting .35 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of midnight, April 22, that there are 1,156 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 35,684.

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania have cases of COVID-19.

Today, 58 new deaths are reported among positive and probable cases, bringing the statewide total to 1,622.

Of those, 845 were in nursing homes and personal care facilities.
