Riverfront Redevelopment Plan Hopes to Build Neighborhood Connecting Waterfront With Chester

By

A map distributed by NBBJ at public meetings shows the Chester Waterfront Master Plan area, from Highland to Norris streets and the waterfront to Route 291.

Public input is in on a master plan for Chester’s West End waterfront development and architect NBBJ is now reviewing the material, writes Colin Ainsworth for Delco News Network.

The Boston firm held a series of public meetings in November, and one Dec. 12.

“We had a good turnout. Probably around 70 people came, so that was encouraging,” NBBJ Urban Design Director Kathryn Firth said following the Dec. 12 meeting.

The Riverfront Alliance of Delaware County, Chester  and Philadelphia Union parent company Keystone Sports and Entertainment LLC announced in October that NBBJ received the contract to design a redevelopment plan for the area surrounding Talen Energy Stadium and the Wharf at Rivertown office complex.

Firth said his firm will now start “testing things” to see “what will fit on the sight and what activities can be adjacent to each other.”

The hope is to create a neighborhood that’s connected to the wider Chester area and to the waterfront.

NBBJ will work on the plan then give a presentation in early spring to garner further public opinion.

The plan is scheduled for completion in June.
