In order to have a great life, you need to have a personal strategic plan. You don’t want to want to end up like Woody Allen, who once said, “When I die, I want someone else’s life to flash in front of me.”

For years, I’ve been helping businesses and individuals develop their strategic plan. A personal strategic plan can help you get extreme clarity, so you can focus your attention on your intention, your own preferred and desired future.

Success is not an accident it. It’s a choice you make, and it begins with crystallizing your thoughts about the most ideal future you could create. I love Peter Drucker’s quote that the best way to predict the future is to create it. It is a law of the universe that what we focus on expands. Why not focus on creating the future we want on purpose rather than going through life being too busy to plan for our ideal future?

Planning is the heartbeat of performance. It’s the systematic process of designing your future with the most effective action steps to achieve the success you desire. In order for you to get the greatest return on your time, a plan is critical to your success. A plan requires you to think ahead about what really matters most, what is significant to you and your family, what you really want to achieve in the future.

A well-defined plan properly executed is a critical success factor in your future, both personally and professionally. You can virtually guarantee your success in any endeavor if you know where you stand now, who you are, what you want, where you are going, how you will get there, and what you will do once you arrive.

Planning before you act will save you 10 to 1 in execution, thereby leveraging your effort, resources, and energy to produce result beyond your wildest expectations. Planning is a future-oriented thought process that enables you to be as well prepared as possible for whatever the future may bring. Planning allows you to crystallize your thinking about all the steps along the way to achieving a goal.

Zen monk and teacher Shunryu Suzuki said, “The most important thing is to find out what is the most important thing.”
