It’s nice when a childhood hero takes the time to visit your shop and chat. That’s what happened to Marty Burman of Burman’s Health Shop in Brookhaven when former World Wrestling Federation World Heavyweight Champion Bob Backlund stopped by last week, writes Colin Ainsworth for the Daily Times.

Backlund, who was champion from 1978-1983, made the trip from his Connecticut home to appear on the shop’s “Rising Core” podcast.

. “I thought it was an honor, and I think he feels good about me coming to his store – everybody’s a winner.”said Backlund, speaking at the store prior to recording the podcast.

The “Rising Core” podcast covers topics related to nutritional supplements and physical fitness. Following the release of his autobiography in 2015, Backlund has been promoting exercise, self-discipline and a clean-living lifestyle.

Burman contacted Backlund after a childhood friend and fellow wrestling fan recommended he read Backlund’s autobiography.

“I know Bob takes phenomenal care of himself. I think he would be a phenomenal inspiration to people down here,” Burman said.

Burman is arranging for Backlund to return Nov. 1-2 for a speaking engagement with area youth wrestlers and book-signing appearances at the store.
