Talents of Backhoe Operators on Display at Aqua Pennsylvania’s First-Ever Backhoe Challenge

By

The often-overlooked talents of backhoe operators were on full display last week in Newtown Square, where Aqua Pennsylvania hosted its first-ever Backhoe Challenge, according to a report from 6ABC.

Precision and patience were the names of the game as backhoe operators from Aqua Pennsylvania, a subsidiary of Bryn Mawr-based Aqua America that serves more than 1.4 million residents in 32 counties across the Keystone State, competed in three different events:

  1. The operators had to remove at least three 10-inch diameter bouncy balls from the top of a traffic cone and place them in a small bucket.
  2. The operators were tasked with picking up an egg from a mound of sand using a tablespoon attached to the backhoe’s bucket and placing it on a bale of hay … all without breaking it.
  3. The operators also had to see who was fastest in filling three wine glasses from a bottle hooked to the backhoe’s bucket.

The IUOE (International Union of Operating Engineers) 542 union congratulated Rob Deleo, the winner, in a Facebook post.
