Mission co-workers Charles and Melissa Johnson are enlightening 57 groups at churches around the Delaware Valley about their work in Zambia, writes Leslie Krowchenko for the Daily Times.

The couple worked with the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian’s Zambia Synod (CCAP) in expanding its ministry of community development, food security and improved health.

The Zambian population struggles with massive poverty and the rapid spread of infectious diseases, including HIV/AIDs.  Zambia is land-locked in south-central Africa.

Charles is helping build the capacity of Chasefu Model Farm. The farm is an agricultural project of Chasefu Theological College, envisioned as a training center for smallholder farmers.

He is also involved in enhancing for-profit farming to help support the theological college and model farm and to reinvest in agricultural income generating activity (AIGA).

“We work to provide a holistic ministry involving health, education and other aspects in addition to the spirit,” Charles said, speaking recently at Wallingford Presbyterian Church.

Melissa, a health education program facilitator, identifies important needs in general health education. Her focus is on improving maternal and child health, addressing women’s reproductive health issues and raising awareness about nutritional needs and communicable and non-communicable diseases.
