Those who enjoy dining alfresco when the weather is pleasant may soon be able to sit on a rooftop in Wayne, writes Linda Stein for Main Line Media News.

The Hemcher Family Partnership, which owns the Great American Pub, asked the Board of Commissioners at a recent meeting to change the township zoning code to allow rooftop dining at the restaurant and in Wayne.

Rooftop dining has been successful at the three brothers’ other restaurant in Conshohocken. The Hemchers are “a Radnor family” and grew up in Radnor.

Nicholas Caniglia, a lawyer representing the Hemchers, said rooftop dining has helped businesses in Conshohocken and believes the same could happen in Wayne.

Board President Lisa Borowski said that she has been to the Conshohocken restaurant and it is “very nice.”

Borowski suggested that the proposal go to the Planning Commission next.

Township Manager Robert Zienkowski commended the Hemcher family and the Great American Pub for keeping the restaurant clean, and for paving and striping the restaurant lot.

“They are an example of what a great business is. I want to thank them for being here and for what they do,” he said.
