Honey Brook’s Gabrielle Gehron, a senior at Widener, recently took over the reins as the university’s 2019 President for a Day, writes Colin Ainsworth for the Daily Times.

The biomedical engineering student will finish a five-year engineering program a year early this semester. In her temporary role, she made financial transparency the top agenda item for a day filled with meetings. She also gave a speech at the university’s annual Scholarship Luncheon.

“My proposal was all about financial transparency,” she said. “I believe that’s something that people are starting to demand from politicians, businesses we buy products from, and universities.”

She said that officials at Widener have kept open communication with the Student Government Association regarding financial topics. But she would like to have easier online access to publicly available audits and records, along with a clearer presentation for students not familiar with accountancy.

“I purposed we create a webpage easily accessible that details in a digestible way all the money coming in and where it’s coming from,” she said.

Gehron, who will join a Chester County-based pharmaceutical company after she graduates, said the administrators she met with seemed open to the proposal.
