Tim Seifert, head of annuity sales for Radnor-based Lincoln Financial Group, crossed a big item off his bucket list last year by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, he writes for Philadelphia Business Journal.

Seifert found a parallel between his journey and what he does for a living: helping Americans climb to their retirement savings “summit” before slowly and successfully descending through their golden years with solutions that help keep their savings secure and protected.

The intense physical journey became an incredible mental exercise, teaching him lessons Seifert has applied in his personal and professional life. He shared these with a group of MBA students at Villanova University to help them navigate their professional lives and to achieve any personal milestones.

First, he emphasized the importance of finding a personal mountain. In any profession there has to be something to work toward. Also, it is important to “give up, to get up.”

“To reach the peak of your mountain, you need to understand the law of sacrifice,” wrote Seifert. “Once you’ve set your goal, you need to take time to determine what will be required to achieve it.”
