The Association of American Colleges & Universities has accepted a team from Neumann University to participate in its Summer Institute on High-Impact Practices and Student Success.

The institute will be held at Villanova University from June 18-21.

According to the ACC&U, the institute will help campus and state-system teams advance student success by making quality and equity the foundations for excellence in undergraduate education. Teams will work with institute faculty, comprised of nationally recognized scholars and practitioners, to deepen connections between the assets that students bring to college, their educational experiences, and preparation for lifelong success.

Dr. Alfred G. Mueller, dean of the Division of Arts and Sciences, will chair the Neumann team of Je’Nai Righter, assistant dean of students and director of student engagement and leadership; Etsuko Hoshino-Browne, associate professor of Psychology; Kerry Hustwit, assistant professor of Communication and Digital Media; and Preeti Singh, director of career and personal development.

“Our goal in attending the institute is to learn methods of selecting high-impact practices to maximize student success in academic programs, methods of combining the curricular and co-curricular in ways that promote job placement, and methods of determining the effects of high-impact practices on under-represented populations,” said Mueller.

Neumann joins institutions such as George Mason University, Loyola Marymount University, Princeton University, SUNY Geneseo, the University of Alabama, and University of Texas at Dallas in the 2019 institute.

“Neumann University already makes use of many high-impact practices in our curriculum,” Mueller said, “but being good at something is not good enough in today’s academic marketplace. Attending this institute will help us learn how to take what we do at Neumann to the next level, integrating co-curricular and career development opportunities intentionally into our academic programs to help our students develop the skill sets that will make them even more competitive in today’s job market.”
