John Daly Jr. is giving new life to Comic Universe on MacDade Boulevard in the Folsom section of Ridley, as the retired U.S. Marine has stepped in to take ownership of the store on May 1, writes Alex Rose for the Delaware County News Network.

“I never would have seen myself owning a comic book store — never had dreams or aspirations to own any kind of store,” said Daly, who spent 20 years in the service and another six or seven doing private contract work as a Guard Force Commander in Iraq.

Comic Universe founder Frank Link is selling the store after four decades. Daly had been a comic book fan since he was 14, when he stumbled across the second issue of Secret Wars.

He was looking for a new direction after being sent home in 2017 with knee and back injuries and decided to buy the store when he found out Link was retiring.

Daly plans to keep the store name the same and to keep Frank’s legacy alive by maintaining the store’s homey feel and offering the same customer service. He will have earlier store hours and will offer some cheaper comic books.
