A group of 75 male students at Widener University recently slipped on high heels for Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, the international men’s march that highlights the causes, effects, and remediation for men’s sexualized violence against women, writes Pete Bannan for the Daily Times.

The goal is to raise awareness of the seriousness of rape, sexual assault, and gender violence.

This is the fourth year Widener students have participated in the program. It encourages men to have an impact while walking through the campus in high heels.

One of the speakers at the event was Erica Webster, a former U.S. Army MP.

“I won’t make you stand there in those heels, women feel that pain every day,” said Webster. “I was a former MP, and when they had incidents of sexual assault, what the woman was wearing was not important.”

Webster, the founder and CEO of Dub Fitness in King of Prussia, sits on the board of the Greater Philadelphia Veterans Network. She called on students for empathy on issues concerning women, so more people are made aware.

“I’m proud to be represented by someone like you that will help diminish the stigma of sexual assault and harassment,” she said.
