Businessman Offers His Clifton Heights Property to Upper Darby School District

By

Businessman Jim Duffy has again offered to sell his Clifton Heights property to the Upper Darby School District for new school space, writes Kevin Tustin for the Daily Times.

Duffy presented his property at 4 Rockbourne Road to the district as it prepares to vote on March 12 on approving the initial steps to develop a new middle school on North Springfield Road in Clifton Heights.

The property, along with another right across Darby Creek at 4000 Bridge Street in Drexel Hill, is being offered for around $60 million. This is the amount the district may spend to construct a 150,000-square-foot middle school for 750 students in Clifton Heights.

Duffy’s proposal shows that the five-story Rockbourne property offers two options. The space could be used for the administrative offices and 30 elementary-level classrooms or for a middle school with 50 classrooms. Duffy would construct a gym and cafeteria on the Bridge Street property.

According to Duffy, this would help solve the overcrowding issue the district is trying to overcome. The Rockbourne property also has two business tenants that would generate revenue for the school district.
