Russian Poet to Discuss State of Literature, Online Journalism in Her Country at Swarthmore College

Maria Stepanova, who was born in Moscow in 1972 and who is one of the most prominent young Russian poets today, will speak about the current state of literature and online journalism in Russia on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at Swarthmore College.

The event is scheduled for 4:30-5:30 PM in McCabe Library.

Stepanova is also an editor, journalist, and essayist, as well as the founder of the cultural web site openspace.ru, and later of colta.ru.

She has published 10 books of poetry and two books of prose. Her unusual memoir/novel, To the Memory of Memory, won a “Big Book” prize in December 2018, and she has won multiple other Russian and international literary prizes, as well as a fellowship from the Joseph Brodsky Foundation (2010).

After her lecture, Stepanova will take questions in either English or Russian.
