Veterans buried at the Prospect Hill Baptist Church cemetery in Prospect Park were honored over the weekend as part of the Wreaths Across America initiative, writes Kathleen Carey for the Delaware County News Network.
“Today, we show united fronts, gratitude, and respect across the United States of America as we remember the fallen, honor those who serve, and teach our children the value of freedom,” said Rev. Chris Heisey-Terrell.
The cemetery was one of 1,640 locations across the nation where people honored more than 1.7 million veterans through Wreaths Across America.
During the ceremony in Prospect Park, all branches of service were honored, as well as prisoners of war and those missing in action. A soldier from the Civil War was also recognized.
Joyce Foresman-Capuzzi, a coordinator of the Prospect Park event, sprang into action when she found out the cemetery was not on the national list in October.
“I couldn’t think that there was such a historic little cemetery that wasn’t participating,” she said.
