Temple’s football team will look to continue its recent streak of success under new head coach Manny Diaz, who has roots in Delaware County, writes Mike Jensen for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Diaz, whose mother grew up in Delaware County before moving to Florida, has sterling credentials. Prior to joining the Owls, he was defensive coordinator at Miami.

Diaz seems to be on the fast track to big-time college football, which means that he may be the next coach to leave Temple after only a season or two at the helm.

“You offer them your best every day,” Diaz said of his players. “Because everything else is outside of your control.”

He said that it is important for the players to always have the full commitment of a coaching staff invested in their everyday development.

“There’s so much going on today and now that has to be attacked, and if you start looking at what’s happening down the line, usually something bad happens in the present,” Diaz said.
