Springfield native Dan Geriot, whose legendary high school basketball career still resonates in Delaware County, has been promoted from his role as a player development coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers to a seat behind the bench as an assistant coach, writes Joe Vardon for the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Geriot, 29, is now believed to be one of the youngest coaches in the NBA. He has worked as a video coordinator and player development coach for the Cavs since 2015.

A 6-foot-8 forward who could shoot from long range, Geriot scored 2,157 points at Springfield High School. He then played at the University of Richmond and led the Spiders to the Sweet 16 of the 2011 NCAA Tournament.

Geriot was an assistant coach at Princeton while the Cavs’ current general manager, Koby Altman, was an assistant coach at Ivy League rival Columbia. Geriot was introduced to the franchise by Altman and hired after an interview with then-Cavs coach David Blatt.
