Crozer-Keystone Health System, the largest healthcare provider in Delaware County, has appointed Sharif Omar as its new CEO, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Omar is replacing Patrick Gavin, who resigned after occupying the position for more than two years.

Gavin became CEO after the retirement of Joan Richards, who held the position for nine years. She retired after Crozer-Keystone was sold to Prospect Medical Holdings, the for-profit hospital management company.

Crozer-Keystone runs Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill, Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park, Springfield Hospital in Springfield, and Community Hospital in Chester.

Omar was hired earlier this year by Crozer-Keystone as chief operating officer. Before joining Crozer-Keystone, he was CEO at the Northwest Health System in Arkansas.

He’s already familiar with local healthcare after being an executive at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center from 2009 to 2014.
