Kimberly-Clark to Invest $150 Million into Manufacturing Plant in Chester

By

Kimberly-Clark plans to invest $150 million in infrastructural upgrades to its manufacturing plant in Chester, writes Natalie Kostelni for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Among the upgrades coming over the next three years is the replacement of the coal-fired co-generation power plant.

The plant at One Avenue of the States has been making Scott 1000 toilet paper in Chester for the North American market for more than a century. The original Scott Paper Company was acquired by Kimberly-Clark 23 years ago. The plant that once employed 3,000 people and used to make more than a dozen different products now has 600 employees.

The company has received $6 million through the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program to fund the new gas-fired plant. As a result, the new plant should be more energy-efficient and be able to reduce emissions.

“Kimberly-Clark continues to fulfill its commitment to reinvesting in our U.S. business,” said Adrian Poretti, vice president of supply chain for Kimberly-Clark North America. “So far this year, we’ve announced investments in three of our North American mills, including here in Chester, making important improvements to support our overall growth.”
