Yoga Helps Glen Mills Students Reduce Stress, Manage Anger, Improve Sleep
Students at the Glen Mills Schools are enjoying a new experience – instruction in yoga, reports Trish Hartman for 6ABC.
The yoga class is being offered at the residential school for court-adjudicated youth by the nonprofit Transformation Yoga Project.
“Research backs that the tools of yoga can be incredible for your own self-regulation, anger management, improving sleep,” said Colleen DeVirgiliis, an instructor with the organization.
Gilbert Alvarado, a student from Los Angeles, said the class helps him manage stress.
“You could come from a unit with 60 kids and you come to an environment with a couple kids and it’s just so peaceful,” he said.
The hope is that yoga will stay with the students, even after they leave Glen Mills, and become a lifelong practice that will contribute to improving their lives and continue their healing and rehabilitation.
