When the Minnesota Vikings expressed interest in making Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo their next offensive coordinator, they knew they might face some obstacles in landing him, writes Ben Goessling for the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Word of their interest leaked out during Super Bowl week in early February, while the 40-year-old was in the Twin Cities helping to prepare the Eagles for the game. Also, DeFilippo, who graduated from Radnor High School in 1996, was in no rush to leave Philadelphia.

The Eagles won Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis, and the team granted the Vikings permission to talk to DeFilippo a few days before his contract expired. By the time executives from the Vikings flew to Philadelphia to interview him, DeFilippo had done enough research to know he was going to take the job if it was offered.

The Vikings then named him their offensive coordinator on Feb. 9.

“When you go and take a chance on a situation, there’s three things you want to look at: stable ownership, stable front office, stable head coach,” DeFilippo said. “This place was three-for-three.”
