A pair of graduating seniors from Penn Wood High School and another two from Upper Darby High School are continuing their education with the help of College Possible Philadelphia, writes Kevin Tustin for the Daily Times.

Penn Wood’s Destany Fields and Fatoumata Kane and Upper Darby’s Hibah Ali and Davy-Anna Phosouvank Chamroeunphorn took part in the program that pairs students from low-income families with a coach who helps them prepare for the next step in their education.

The students have been working with a coach since their junior year. They help with the college admissions process, including SAT prep and preparing applications. And the students are finding the help invaluable.

“We started out naïve children not knowing anything about college, and with the help of College Possible, I expanded my understanding of the college application process,” said Fields, who will be studying education at West Chester University.

So far, the network has helped 132 students from Upper Darby High School and 52 students from Penn Wood High School since the partnerships have been established.

“At Penn Wood and Upper Darby high schools, we’re successful because there are fantastic students there,” said Jen Weikert, College Possible Philadelphia’s Executive Director.
