Dan Nerelli

The Chichester School District has appointed Dan Nerelli, superintendent of the Upper Darby School District, as its new superintendent, writes Kevin Tustin for the Delaware County News Network.

Nerelli will succeed Kathleen Sherman, who retired after four years as superintendent.

“I’m looking to build a very long history here in this wonderful school district with some great administrators that I’ve heard about,” said Nerelli.

He said that, while he did not wish to leave Upper Darby, he felt that this opportunity provided him with more options to be with his family.

“Here, I have the opportunity to go home, maybe catch a kid’s event and come back here,” he said. “It’s the flexibility.”

Nerelli has more than two decades of experience as an educator. After working seven years at Upper Darby, he accepted a position in the Lower Merion School District. He returned to Upper Darby nine years ago as assistant superintendent, before becoming interim superintendent in the summer of 2016. He was officially appointed early last year.
