The Marcus Hook Industrial Complex

The Marcus Hook Industrial Complex has received new life through Sunoco Pipeline and its parent company, Energy Transfer Partners, writes Erica McClaugherty for IBEW Hour Power.

Before it fell on hard times, the refinery once powered the nation and provided a lifeline for the borough.

Now, after being closed for three years, it’s being repurposed by Energy Transfer Partners as the northeast hub for the distribution, storing, and processing of natural gas liquids.

“It feels great, for everyone working here,” said Jon Hunt, Vice President of Terminal Operations at Energy Transfer Partners. “To see something that is sort of down and out but then a rebirth of this site.”

The company has been using the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers to ensure safety on the project and provide local electricians with opportunities.

“It’s been great; I’m 15 minutes from home,” said Matthew Gorley, Journeyman, IBEW Local 654. “It’s opened so many opportunities for me.”
