Data systems developed by Radnor’s Qlik that can be used remotely through a mobile device are helping businesses work faster and more economically, writes Joseph DiStefano for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

One of the companies that have seen the benefits is King of Prussia’s AmeriGas, the largest propane distributor in the country.

Qlik provided the company with a dashboard system that splits the close to two million AmeriGas customers across all 50 states into 640 retail zones that handle five million deliveries a year.

“Now, a manager can see where all his drivers are,” said Jerry Sheridan, CEO of AmeriGas. “If there’s an emergency, a driver can see how much propane is available, and who’s capable of making a delivery.”

He said the system also provides safety, customer service, and distribution information, making it easy to “really get your arms around the operation.”

This year alone, AmeriGas has already reduced costs by $20 million.

“One of our lead business-intelligence guys is getting hugs from people in the field when they find out he’s the guy who helped put this together,” said Sheridan.
