On a recent Saturday morning, Academy Park High School welcomed back more than two dozen alumni to speak to current students about professional career paths after high school, including acting, steamfitting, medical research, and criminal justice, writes Kevin Tustin for the News of Delaware County.

More than 100 students from all grade levels attended the program called “What’s Your Passion?” The program, now in its fourth year, was coordinated by Academy Park High School teacher Susan Reutter.

“The angle we took on it is, (students) don’t see past high school, so they don’t see a goal that they’re working toward,” Reutter said. “We thought to let them know about all of the careers that are out there.

“Obviously, this little spattering isn’t all of them, but it’s a variety of all of the things you can do. To hear that message from people who went to (Academy Park) we thought would be more powerful.”

Victor Ariyo, who graduated from Academy Park three years ago, spoke to students about his experience attending Penn State, where he is studying biomedical engineering.

“This is an opportunity to gain that foundation to find your passion,” Ariyo said.
