Villanova University has broken ground on its new $60 million performing arts center, writes Natalie Kostelni for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The new center will have two main performance spaces, one of which is a proscenium-style theatre with 400 seats. The other space will be a courtyard theatre with 200 seats. In addition to the performance spaces, the project will also include classrooms, rehearsal space, performance labs, a dance studio, and a box office.

The performing arts center is just part of a larger development currently under way along Lancaster Avenue. This will bring more dorms and retail space to the university’s 260-acre campus.

The development of the center is being funded exclusively through donations. The school has thus far received six gifts that either equal or are more than $1 million, including a pair of $20 million gifts.
