Incyte’s new global headquarters in Wilmington designed by Radnor-based architectural firm Granum A/I includes a lot of outdoor space, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The 154,000-square-foot building’s rooftop includes amenities usually reserved for local parks, including a walking trail and a community garden. According to Incyte CEO Herve Hoppenot, these are to create spaces where employees can meet informally.

The new headquarters also feature charging stations for electric vehicles, as well as a “living wall” covered in live plants.

Hoppenot said that the expansion was necessary to secure more space for the biopharmaceutical company’s growing research and development activities.

“We are re-investing everything that comes in into research,” Hoppenot said, emphasizing that this has led the company to expand to its now 1,100 employees.

The new building will be home to approximately 400 administration and clinical development employees, which will free up space at Incyte’s old headquarters for more laboratories.

Incyte’s executive vice president for human resources, Paula J. Swain, said that the expanded lab space will help the company grow its research programs.

“Our ambition,” said Hoppenot, “is to build a major, research-based biopharmaceutical company with a global reach.”
