Broomall native RonnieMarie Falasco, a star softball player and recent graduate of Delco Christian, is one of just 20 students chosen from a nationwide pool of 37,000 applicants to become a 2017 Foot Locker Scholar Athlete.

The Foot Locker Foundation, the charitable arm of the popular athletic retailer that has stores in 23 countries, has rewarded 20 student-athletes who have demonstrated exceptional academic ability and strong leadership skills in sports, school, and the community with $20,000 each to support their college dreams.

Since the program’s inception in 2011, the Foot Locker Foundation has invested more than $2 million in the education and future of some of America’s most promising scholar-athletes.

“We created the Foot Locker Scholar Athletes Program to honor extraordinary scholar athletes, who not only excel academically, but have taken the skills they’ve cultivated through sports to make a powerful and positive impact within their communities,” said Richard A. Johnson, Chairman and CEO of Foot Locker.

“With today’s escalating costs of college tuition and student debt, our commitment to education has become more important than ever.”

Falasco, who batted .650 with a .732 on-base percentage in her recently completed senior year at Delco Christian, will continue her career at Amherst College. She was Delaware County’s top slugger this past season with 11 home runs, five doubles, and six triples.

Falasco, who also played soccer and ran track in high school, plans to study mental health and neurology in college.
