The Bus for Us has departed from Rose Tree Park!

This season, children will follow the story of dinosaurs as their dino-parents try to get them to fall asleep in How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?, written by Jane Yolen and illustrated by Mark Teague.

Delaware County Councilman Dave White recently joined Delaware County Libraries Director Catherine Bittle to formally introduce the third StoryWalk book, How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?, in Rose Tree Park.

Children and their parents are invited to stroll the .25-mile circle located behind the Parks and Recreation office, and up the hill from the amphitheater, where 19 plexiglass panel displays are posted. They can read each colorful page and then walk, skip, or run to the next page. The stories change quarterly.

Delaware County Council and Delaware County Libraries launched the program in the fall of 2016 with The Bus for Us, written by Suzanne Bloom.

“StoryWalk is an interactive program that allows our young readers to exercise their minds and their bodies as they walk through beautiful Rose Tree Park,” said White. “We hope engaging programs such as this encourage literacy and a love for reading in our youth.”

StoryWalk is just one of many programs offered by Delaware County Library Services and the 26 member libraries throughout the county.

“I’m excited that the newest StoryWalk title is How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?” said Bittle. “It was one of my favorite stories to share with little readers when I was the children’s librarian at the Ridley Township Library. While it can be used as a teaching tool for proper bedtime behavior, the rhythmic verses, colorful illustrations, and silly antics of the dinosaurs make this a fun book to read anytime.”

StoryWalk is the creation of Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vt. Delaware County’s StoryWalk panels were installed at Rose Tree Park with assistance from students at Williamson College of the Trades.

StoryWalk at Rose Tree Park is geared toward children ages 1-7, and is free and open during park hours.
