With a month of 2017 already in the books, statistics say your New Year’s resolutions may be hurting already. Whether that’s the case or not, the key to making 2017 the best year you’ve ever had is to first define what that even means.

Start by listing out some of your personal goals for the rest of the year. Think about what you’d like to be able to say you’ve accomplished when the next ball drops.

Whether your goals involve your health, wellbeing, relationships, kids, hobbies, interests, or vacation time, dig a little deeper into the details of each one, adding specifics like where you want to go, when the optimal time or season is, with whom you want do it, and why it’s important.

Take vacation time, for example. Getting away from the stress and routine of day-to-day life is some of the most important time you can spend this year. If you plan out the right place, right time and right people to spend it with, you’ll be able to rest, recharge, relax, and reconnect with your loved ones.

Now take those detailed goals and create key milestones and deadlines to help you get them done.

In a world littered with distractions and noise, most people unwittingly spend the bulk of their lives helping accomplish other people’s goals, not their own.

If you can commit just one hour a week to implementing your plan of action this year, what really matters to you will remain crystal clear, and you’ll be on your way to realizing the success you’ve dreamed of, one step at a time.
