Low Taxes, Affordable Real Estate Make Brookhaven Ideal for First-Time Homeowners

By

This three-bedroom colonial at 303 West Brookhaven Road is on sale for $180,000.

With affordable real estate, a good school district, and property taxes lower than most areas in Delaware County, Brookhaven is a great choice for first time homeowners, writes Alan Heavens for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

At this time, there are 37 active listings in Brookhaven, with prices ranging from $65,000 to $339,900, and more than 20 properties are already in the final stages of their sale.

According to Barbara Mastronardo, associate broker at Weichert Realtors in Media, over the last six months, 80 houses have gone to settlement, ranging from a $28,500 “fixer-upper or foreclosure” to a $310,000 property. A home averages 75 days on the market at a median price of $180,000.

Mastronardo also pointed out that Brookhaven’s property taxes of one percent are reasonable by Delaware County standards.

“It might not be as close to Interstate 95 as Aston,” said Mastronardo, “but you are just a drive down Route 352 to the Blue Route and then 95.”
