The Philadelphia Union have honored long-time soccer writer Frank Bertucci, who passed away last year at the age of 68, by hanging a plaque in the press room at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester.

According to Charles Cuttone, executive editor of Philly Soccer News, the plaque reads: “In recognition of Frank Bertucci’s Love and Support for the World’s Sport – Soccer, from his native South Philly to Frank’s ancestral home in Italy, he reveled in the Glory of the Beautiful Game.”

“We are trying to establish traditions here,” Union Vice President Carl Cherkin, who had known Bertucci since the days of the Philadelphia Atoms in the 1970s, said as he unveiled the plaque.

According to Cuttone, for more than 40 years, Bertucci was a fixture on the Philadelphia sports scene, working for the Philadelphia Bulletin, Philadelphia Inquirer, and Philadelphia Daily News.

He covered the 1990 World Cup in Italy and 1994 World Cup in the United States. He was a regular fixture at Philadelphia-area soccer games over the years.

A graduate of Temple University, Bertucci worked in the sports information offices at Penn and LaSalle, and also served as the Public Relations Director of the Philadelphia Firebirds, who played in the North American Hockey League in the 1970s.
