Wawa’s first ever store, opened in 1964 in Folsom, is moving to a new, state-of-the-art home just a few steps down the road, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.

Store #1 will close its doors this morning at 8 AM, as the new location at MacDade Boulevard and Kedron Avenue simultaneously opens its doors. To honor the rich history and tradition of Store #1, a mini-parade will travel from the old location to the new.

The parade will start at 7:30 AM, with a 1918 vintage Wawa milk truck leading a procession, followed by a band and Wawa associates who will ceremoniously close the original store then travel down Second Avenue in Folsom to the new store. General Manager Nicole Stabinski will welcome everyone at the new location.

As part of today’s festivities, Wawa will host a charitable hoagie-building competition ‘Hoagies for Heroes’ at 10 AM. During the competition, the Ridley Township Police Department and the Folsom Fire Company will be vying for a grant award for either the Anne E. Howanski Memorial Scholarship Fund or the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Pediatric Cancer Center, respectively.

Other highlights of the day include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, VFW honor guard, guest speakers, and a visit from the Philadelphia Eagles cheerleaders and a player who will be available for autographs.
