Delaware County Briefly: Mega Millions Lottery Ticket, Safeguard Scientifics, and Williamson College

Here’s a quick rundown of the news in Delaware County:

Delco Mega Millions Ticket Wins $1M

A Mega Millions ticket sold at the Marcus Hook Newsstand, located at 9 East 10th Street in Marcus Hook, is worth $1 million, but the winner has yet to come forward.

The lucky ticket matched all five white balls drawn (17, 24, 27, 48 and 75) but missed the Mega Ball of 6, falling just short of the $174 million jackpot. The newsstand gets a $5,000 bonus for selling the prize-winning ticket. The winner has one year from the drawing date to claim the prize.

Radnor’s Safeguard Scientifics Elects New Chairman of the Board

Safeguard Scientifics of Radnor announced that Robert J. Rosenthal, Ph.D. has been elected Chairman of the Board of the Company. Dr. Rosenthal has served on Safeguard’s board of directors since 2007. Dr. Rosenthal succeeds Andrew E. Lietz, who served on the Company’s board of directors since 2003 and as its Chair since 2009. Jack L. Messman also retired yesterday from Safeguard’s board of directors after 22 years of service.

Williamson College Offers “Introduction to Thermal Power Plants” Course

“An Introduction to Large Thermal Power Generation Plants,” a three-day course designed to provide useful knowledge to those interested in energy, electric power generation, and the basics of fossil power production, is being presented by Williamson College of the Trades in Media from July 12-14.

The course will include tours of three local power plants and Williamson’s Energy Island, to expose participants to the “real world” of power generation, and classroom sessions at Williamson. The course is nontechnical for business, finance, and energy professionals, as well as engineers, managers, and technicians employed by suppliers of equipment for the electric utility industry, and new utility and IPP employees.
