Cailin Kennedy of Media collects care packages for Pathways.

Seeing the suffering of people living on the streets in New York spurred six-year-old Cailin Kennedy to help those in need in her hometown of Media via Pathways, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.

“I was in New York and I saw people in blankets asking for food and money,” said Cailin. “I asked my mom if we could do something for them.”

With the help from her school Rose Tree Elementary, which has collaborated with Pathways in the past, Cailin organized a collection of essential items. She managed to gather several shopping bags plus a full box of personal toiletries which she divided into care packages for homeless women and girls in dire need of assistance.

Renee Toussaint, Pathways PA’s Senior Director of Children and Family Services, said that thanks to the amount of items gathered, all four of the organization’s facilities received packages.

“Somehow she knew exactly what was needed” said Toussaint. “She packed it up so it was in individual use bundles. Within an hour, I sent stuff off to two shelters.”
