Lansdowne’s Travers Food Market Celebrates 40 Years With the Customers Who Support It

For 40 years, Travers Food Market has been more than a place to grab a hoagie in Lansdowne.

It’s been a neighborhood fixture where the owners know your name and your usual order, reports Nick Iadonisi for 6abc

Recently, owners Dave and Donna Travers marked the milestone the way they’ve built the business, surrounded by the people who keep it going.

Longtime customers, friends, and neighbors filled the Shadeland Avenue market for food samples, giveaways, and raffles.

The store’s roots stretch back four decades, when Dave first opened the doors alongside his brother.

After his brother retired in the early 2000s, Dave and Donna bought him out in 2003 and eventually brought their daughters into the fold, making Travers a true family operation.

Today, the market has earned its reputation as a one-stop neighborhood shop, with a deli case full of meats, home-cooked meals, breakfast sandwiches, and catering, plus the customer favorites that built its name.

But Donna says the real draw isn’t on the menu. The family makes a point of greeting customers by name and creating a space where people feel like family.

For the Travers family, the anniversary is also a thank-you to the community that has carried them through the hard work of keeping a small business alive.

“Just want to thank the community for supporting us all these years. It makes our heart happy that people leave happy,” said Donna.
