The Brandywine Valley Symphony’s concert at Longwood Gardens on the evening of June 25 will be “bursting with patriotism, joy, and spirit. This is the music that captures the soul of America on its 250th birthday,” said Dr. Timothy Blair, President of the Brandywine Valley Symphony.
The program, Made In America, includes:

· John Williams – Liberty Fanfare
· Aaron Fullan – An American Dream, A Symphonic Salute to America250
· Antonin Dvorak – Symphony No. 9 “From the New World” 2nd Movement
· Aaron Copland – An Outdoor Overture
· Leonard Bernstein – West Side Story – Selections for Orchestra arr. Mason
· Florence Price – Andante Moderato
· George Gershwin – An American in Paris
The only piece not immediately recognizable by music lovers of all genres is Aaron Fullan’s An American Dream, because it is a new composition, but it will be familiar from almost the first note.
It is an arrangement of twelve of the most beloved patriotic songs, covering the full 250-year sweep of American history from Yankee Doodle to Proud to be an American.
Those twelve favorites will be uniquely presented in chronological order, the only known patriotic arrangement to do so.
The concert will be preceded by a reading of the full text of the Declaration of Independence, led by community leaders, with an estimated 1,000 persons in the audience participating as part of the Chester County Community Foundation’s Dare to Declare project.
“This makes it an uplifting civic exercise as well as a wonderful musical evening. I can’t imagine a more inspirational way to prepare for the nation’s official 250th birthday on July 4th,” said Dr, Blair.
