Aqua Pennsylvania Is Replacing Miles of Aging Water Mains Across Delaware County

Aqua Pennsylvania has replaced more than 2,500 lead and galvanized customer-owned service lines since 2024 as part of its ongoing effort to remove lead from drinking water systems across the Commonwealth.

Reliable water service doesn’t happen by accident — it takes ongoing investment, and Aqua Pennsylvania is making one right here in Delaware County.

Aqua Pennsylvania is replacing 12,530 feet of water mains across Upper Providence Township, Springfield Township, and the boroughs of Media, Darby, and Yeadon.

The project swaps out older cast iron pipes for new ductile iron mains made from nearly 90 percent recycled materials — a proactive upgrade designed to keep water service running smoothly for decades to come.

The work is part of Aqua’s ongoing infrastructure improvement program, which prioritizes addressing wear and tear before it becomes a disruption.

Upgrades are planned across the following areas:

  • In Upper Providence Township and Media Borough, crews are replacing 3,200 feet of main along N. Orange Street between Kirk Lane and W. 5th Street.
  • In Darby and Yeadon Boroughs, 3,450 feet of main are being replaced across Cedar Ave., Norma Rd., Alfred Ave., Coventry Ave., Glen Cove Rd., Londonderry Lane, and Shetland Road.
  • In Springfield Township, 4,600 feet of main along W. Rolling Road, Ridge Lane, and Hemlock Lane are being upgraded. Additional work covers Fuller Street in Darby Borough and E. 5th Street in Media Borough.
