Delaware County Community College Student-Athlete Fatumata Kaba Wins National Championship in Triple Jump

From L-R: Cheyenne McCarthy of Broomall earned All-American honors with an eighth-place finish in the 10,000 meters; Fatumata Kaba of Sharon Hill captured a national championship in the triple jump; and Jimmy Love of Ridley earned All-American honors after placing fifth nationally in the 100 meters.

Delaware County Community College student-athlete Fatumata Kaba of Sharon Hill made school history after winning the women’s triple jump national championship at the 2026 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Meet, held May 7-9 in Utica, N.Y.

The Academy Park High School graduate became just the second national champion in DCCC history with her first-place finish in the women’s triple jump. Kaba also earned second place nationally in the long jump, improving upon her standout 2025 season in which she placed second and third in the same events.

Kaba, who received her associate degree in Psychology from DCCC on May 14, is now preparing to continue her academic and athletic career at the next level. She has been accepted to Yale University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Vanderbilt University.

“Being a national champion means ending my track career on a good note, as well as redemption for my performance last year,” Kaba said. “It’s a great finish to being a DCCC Phantom.

Kaba wasn’t the only Phantom to deliver a record-setting performance at the NJCAA national championships.

Jimmy Love of Ridley (Ridley High School) sprinted to a fifth-place national finish in the 100 meters — the best performance in Delaware County Community College history for the event.

Cheyenne McCarthy of Broomall (Marple Newtown High School) also made history after placing eighth nationally in the 10,000 meters, becoming the first DCCC student-athlete ever to medal in that event.

Kaba, Love, and McCarthy each earned NJCAA All-American honors for their performances.

“Our athletes have risen to the occasion, competing against the best in the country,” said DCCC Track and Field Coach Cara Fordenbacher.
