Popular Philadelphia cheesesteak destination Cleavers is heading to the suburbs, and Delaware County diners should be excited.
The restaurant, founded by siblings Dimitri and Electra Poulimenos, has spent the past decade earning a devoted following in Rittenhouse Square by doing something simple but rare: making cheesesteaks that are both high-quality and genuinely creative.
Now, they’re bringing that same formula to Newtown Square, a community the two have called home for more than 20 years, reports Vince Carey for the Daily Times.
The move feels personal. Cleavers isn’t a chain chasing new markets; it’s a family business with 40-year roots in the steak industry, expanding into a neighborhood its owners already love.
Every sandwich starts with a proprietary cut of 100% domestic ribeye, served on fresh seeded rolls, with a consistency that’s kept Philadelphia fans coming back for years.
But what sets Cleavers apart is the menu.
The Effin’ Hot Steak layers ribeye with Cooper American cheese, hot cherry pepper relish, fried onions and sriracha aioli for a sandwich with real heat and personality. The Block goes a different direction, pairing ribeye with sautéed portobello mushrooms, green peppers, fried onions and sharp provolone.
“…our goal at Cleavers is to prove that cheesesteaks can be more than just the traditional sandwich,” said Dimitri, “a cheesesteak can be unique and fun.”
Rounding out the menu are chicken and vegetable options, cheesesteak egg rolls, and fries, providing enough variety to keep everyone at the table happy.
