Freedom Village at Brandywine Residents Raise $4,330 From ‘Guys and Dolls SR’

The Freedom Village Players cast of Guys and Dolls SR take a curtain call. The production raised $4,330 for employee scholarships and community outreach projects.

Residents at Freedom Village at Brandywine took center stage on March 6 and 7, premiering their sixth resident-produced musical, Guys and Dolls SR, and raising $4,330 to support employee scholarships and community outreach efforts.

Directed and produced by Freedom Village residents Fran and Maggie Doyle, the performances featured resident cast members, many of whom had little to no prior stage experience before auditioning. The Village Players have become a beloved tradition within the community, bringing residents together to learn something new, showcase their talents, and give back through the arts.

The performances were free to attend, with donations accepted and split evenly between the Freedom Village Scholarship Fund and the Freedom Village Outreach Fund.

Both committees are fully resident-run and play an important role in supporting employees and local charitable efforts. The scholarship committee helps current employees further their education, while the outreach committee supports local organizations through a variety of charitable initiatives.

Both performances drew packed audiences. Friday’s show welcomed mostly residents and staff from all levels of care across the community, while Saturday’s audience included friends and family members of the cast. Including intermission, the production ran two and a half hours and delivered plenty of laughter, continuing the tradition of the Village Players’ comedy-focused musicals.

“The Village Players continue to show what makes this community so special,” said Danielle Geyer, executive director of Freedom Village at Brandywine. “These residents dedicated countless hours to learning, rehearsing, and performing, all while raising meaningful support for programs that benefit our employees and the broader community. It is a remarkable example of passion, generosity, and resident engagement in action.”

The success of Guys and Dolls SR reflects Freedom Village residents’ ongoing commitment to staying active, supporting one another, and making a positive impact beyond the stage.
