William Penn Superintendent Eric Becoats to Retire in August

After six years at the helm of William Penn School District, Superintendent Dr. Eric Becoats will retire this summer, writes Alex Rose for the Daily Times.

Becoats, who took over the helm at William Penn in May 2020 and led the district through the COVID-19 pandemic, announced his plans in an email to the community.

“I must devote my full attention to my family, whose needs at this time require my focus and presence,” he said. “While this decision is accompanied by mixed emotions, I have long believed that family must remain a priority, and I am guided by that principle as I enter the next chapter of my life.”

During his tenure, Becoats led major investments in infrastructure and resources, including $40 million in facility upgrades and a $14.6 million athletic complex at Kerr Field, while also securing annual budget increases of $5 million and serving as a witness in a lawsuit that reshaped school funding allocation.

Becoats recently secured a new three-year contract worth $230,000 per year, which drew criticism from some residents amid concerns over declining district finances linked with some problems in the budget office.
