Three routes that were previously cut by Spirit Airlines at Philadelphia International Airport are resuming in April, writes Emma Dooling for Philadelphia Business Journal.
The airline, PHL’s fourth-largest carrier in 2024, served 1.72 million PHL passengers.
It filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy twice, first in November 2024, then again in August 2025.
Now the budget airline is re-launching service between Philadelphia and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport in Michigan, starting April 15.
Routes to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) will resume on April 16.
The three routes will be seasonal, during the summer travel season.
Spirit Airlines, based in Florida, had cut its service between Philadelphia and Atlanta in October. It’s unclear when routes were halted between PHL and Detroit and Charlotte.
Other airlines are launching new routes at PHL for 2026, including JetBlue, American Airlines, and Allegiant Travel Co., which will begin service at PHL in May.
The new routes come online as Philadelphia International Airport prepares for an influx of travelers this summer to attend the FIFA World Cup, the MLB All-Star Game and the nation’s 250th anniversary.
