Delaware County residents are making a difference this winter by helping tackle hunger through donations to the annual Souper Bowl of Caring food drive, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.
Through its nationwide effort, the Souper Bowl of Caring is supplying food charities with much-needed resources to help feed people in need.
Over the weekend, Souper Bowl of Caring volunteers distributed 20,000 door hangers across Aston, Morton, Rutledge, Springfield, Upper Darby, and Ridley Township to solicit nonperishable food donations. Next Saturday, homeowners can leave donations outside their doors using the hanger by 10 a.m. for pickup.
Donors are asked to ensure that all items are not expired. The drive will also accept toiletries, formula, baby wipes, and diapers.
Residents in non-participating neighborhoods, as well as those who will be away on the day of pickup, can drop off food under the portico at Chambers Memorial Presbyterian Church between February 1 and February 7.
Volunteers participating in the effort include youth groups from area churches, teams from Ridley as well as from Springfield high schools, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and others.
