Sheetz Scoping Out Wawa’s Home Turf with a Chadds Ford Store Proposal

Here’s what the first Sheetz store in Delaware County could look like based on sketch plans submitted to the Chadds Ford Planning Commission.

Sheetz is thinking of opening a 24/7 convenience store with gas pumps in the Painters Crossing Shopping Center at 1201 Wilmington Pike, Chadds Ford, writes Rich Schwartzman for Chadds Ford Live.

That’s a mere 17-minute drive, or 8.9 miles, from Wawa’s headquarters at 260 W. Baltimore Pike in Chester Heights.

There is some confusion over the matter, however.

Sheetz presented a sketch plan to the  Chadds Ford Planning Commission on Feb. 4, following a pre-application meeting in December.

Planning Commission Chairman Craig Hufman seemed unsure of the proposed store’s zoning status.

He said the zoning officer initially said the store was not permitted, but then said it would be a conditional use.

“So, we’ve got to get some clarification on that because we don’t understand what he meant,” Hufman said.

A text amendment might be needed, allowing gasoline sales at a convenience store in the PBC-1 Zoning District where the Painters Crossing Shopping Center is located.

Sheetz is proposing a convenience store on 2 acres in the northeast corner of the shopping center, currently the site of an unoccupied bank and the former Carrabba’s restaurant.
