Luxury retailer Saks Global, which operates Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, writes Erin McCarthy for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The company says the move is aimed at restructuring its finances while remaining in business. For Montgomery County shoppers, the impact appears mixed but relatively limited for now.
In Montco, Saks Global operates a Neiman Marcus at King of Prussia Mall, one of the region’s strongest retail hubs. That location is expected to remain open, as King of Prussia continues to outperform many malls nationwide despite broader challenges in brick-and-mortar retail.
The company also runs a Saks Off 5th outlet at the Metroplex shopping center in Plymouth Meeting, though that store — along with a Northeast Philadelphia location — is slated to close. The closures were reported earlier this fall and are not directly tied to the bankruptcy filing.
Saks Global’s flagship regional presence remains its Saks Fifth Avenue store in Bala Cynwyd, which the company says is not closing in the immediate future. Credit cards, gift cards, returns, and existing orders are also expected to continue without disruption.
Saks Global says it hopes to emerge from bankruptcy later this year with new financing and leadership, positioning itself for long-term stability.
