‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ Author’s Art Coming to Doylestown Museum

Doylestown’s Michener Art Museum is hosting a special exhibit featuring artwork from the acclaimed author and illustrator Eric Carle.

From Feb. 14 through March 24, the Michener Art Museum in Doylestown is displaying the artwork of renowned children’s author and illustrator Eric Carle in a new exhibit.  

“Small Living Things: The Magical Art of Eric Carle” features illustrations from classics like The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Very Busy Spider, The Very Quiet Cricket, The Grouchy Ladybug, and more.  

Work from Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, Carle’s collaboration with Bill Martin Jr., will also be on display. 

Poster designs, sketches, and process art will be available to view, along with objects influenced by Carle’s work, like the 1996 Eric Carle-inspired McDonald’s Happy Meal toy series. 

“We are so pleased to share the art of Eric Carle with the Michener Art Museum community,” said Jennifer Schantz, executive director of The Carle. “Families have been enjoying Carle’s iconic images in their homes for decades, but nothing beats experiencing his original artwork directly as an inspiration for picture book art lovers of all ages.” 

The museum is hosting a variety of programs running alongside the exhibit, including “All About Animals” events with live animals like snakes, birds, and lizards.  

The seven branches of the Bucks County Free Library will also be hosting Eric Carle-themed events and story times. 

Families in Doylestown can also enjoy the Caterpillar Crawl scavenger hunt.
